Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/05/2013

Number: 1

I saw a monarch on the beach in Wells, Maine. It was early afternoon. The butterfly was flitting above 5 feet above the sand. It was not flying in one direction with purpose. It left the sandy area and flew towards the homes that are along the beach; these homes have gardens. There is little vegetation on the beach. This was the second monarch I saw in one week in the exact same place, around the same time, behaving in the same way. (The previous sighting was 07/29/13. I have reported that sighting in a separate report.)
