Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 07/28/2013

Number: 3

As I was searching for monarch eggs that had just been deposited on my milkweed leaves, I was startled to see a large monarch caterpillar almost staring me in the face! I had no idea there had been monarchs in my garden already, as I believed the monarch I had just observed laying eggs had been the first one to visit my garden this summer. Obviously, after I saw the almost 2" caterpillar, I realized I had already had monarch visitors for at least 10 days or so. Within 2 days of spotting three large caterpillars on my milkweed, they disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.
