Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/12/2013

Number: 1

Today we finally found a large number of healthy larva on a hidden patch of milkweed by the Trent canal. I have noticed with some concern over the past few years that the number of our butterflies have been declining. I think that the most likely cause is herbicide killing the milkweed, as it is becoming harder to find by our watersheds. I do believe that it is only because of government cutbacks that the application of herbicides has been cut back. Hopefully our local conservation association will be helpful in pushing for more natural ways for us to live beside our little friends without hurting us both.
