Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/14/2013

Number: 1

I spotted one 4th instar on top of my aphid infested, common milkweed. I never checked that one milkweed due to all of the aphids, ants and tussock moth caterpillars. I didn't think any monarchs would lay eggs on it. Upon looking further I found 9 more caterpillars on and around that plant. Supper excited and surprised to find 10 more caterpillars, from 1st to 4th instars. Some of the cats were on swamp milkweed, echinacea, and wild bergamot leaves. So glad I didn't try to rinse off the aphids and hurt any monarch cats.
