Monarch report, 8/15/13:
Saw five Monarchs, two appeared to be flying to the south, one (presumably a male) was seen puddling, and two may have been laying eggs!!! Yes, I saw one flying low around the blooming Swamp Milkweed and "she" kept stopping for a short while before moving on to another plant, the other was doing the same thing on Showy Milkweed and it wasn't blooming. I could not find any eggs, but the early sighting was when the wind was up and it was hard to see and the later sighting was of activity across the ditch and pretty much beyond my reach. If they were laying eggs chances are pretty good that some will survive as the kingbirds and swallows are out in full force to take out their predators.

I'm really amazed at the amount of milkweed I've seen over the last two days. I think it's a good sign.
