Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/16/2013

Number: 1

Day to day results have not been great, but the last two weeks have shown signs of hope. Today I spotted a couple of new caterpillars and a third instar. Also saw a faded male on the prowl. Yesterday I saw an older male with some damage to his right wings; also saw a new male, possibly Wednesday's hatch. Would be interesting to know if he will become sexually active or will migrate. Still hoping for good numbers of larger caterpillars from the egg laying activity early last week.
Also spotted a fritillary female laying eggs on a woods path of mowed grass and various other very short plants. She moved along with her abdomen leading the way. Quite a performance. Took photographs and video, which should be pretty good.
Waiting and watching for the first reports of roosting activity. Such a strange year.......... What will it bring.............
