Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/15/2013

Number: 1

Saw my first and only Monarch on Thursday, 8-15-2013.

We grow several varieties of Asclepius every year. We grow them to attract the Monarchs and because we love the flowers. All are hardy perennials here except for one tropical variety which I start from seed every spring. This variety is the Monarchs first choice for laying eggs. In previous years these plants have been completely defoliated by August. This year they haven't been touched.

Let's hope things improve next year.
