Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 08/15/2013

Number: 2

Last year I moved to a place with two decks and noticed in August that I had hummingbirds come around. So, this year I waited with anticipation wondering when the hummingbirds would return. I made sure to have a hummingbird feeder and lots of flowers including red flowers. I also grow tomatoes on my deck. Well, I waited and waited and found that the hummingbirds do not return until the middle of August. Now they are on my deck everyday enjoying the food I have provided them. They have even gotten so used to me that they will sit still on a tomato cage without flapping their wings - something I never thought I would see as I thought they continuously flapped their wings. However, they enjoy sitting on the cages and pruning themselves and they allow me to watch them. I have even caught them drinking the water from their feeder by sitting on the edge of it and not flapping their wings. Such an interesting bird! I am enjoying them tremendously!
