I was visiting a friends garden which is just a mile or so from where I live. I have not seen any monarchs in my meadow, although I have large stands of milkweed. Last year I had many so I've been disappointed and concerned. I was therefore surprised, while visiting this gardener, to spot the monarch in her garden so close to where I live. Her house is also surrounded by a wild meadow which has milkweed. She reports that there have been many in her garden this summer but I can't verify that.
