Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/18/2013

Number: 7

The migration has started in North Dakota.

Sunday I tagged 2 female monarchs and saw another 5 flying around. All were in excellent shape and looked like only a few days old. In 2010 I tagged a butterfly on August 18, 2010 and it made it to El Rosario, Mex. It was found 2/29/2012.

This in my 16th year of observing the monarch butterfly, it has also been the worst. Up until Sunday the 18th I have only seen a wild monarch twice. Once on June 27th which I reported and another one on the 10th of August which was not in the best of shape.

Have photo of this years first tagged monarch and hopeful in tagging many more. Monarch Way Station #4006.
