Hey All,
Just a quick note that there appears to be an end to the migration surge, soon. The last of the Ruby Throated Males stopped off about 1 1/2 weeks ago.
Over the last week the numbers have surged as high as 10 individuals. For the last 4 days, the 2 females and 2 young have been supping deeply, emptying the main 1 cup feeder daily.
The two migration expansion feeders went up the first week of July. The 1 cup feeder in the cherry tree empties out about every three days. The overflow 1 quart feeder, by the roses, was refilled twice between 20 Jul. and 10 Aug.
As of today the 19th I have only one resident young remaining. She flies off to the South every few min. then comes back and purches on the tomato cage then flits to the feeder and repeats. Seems as though the remaining young can not make the break from a known food source, even when soaked by a cool rain and night temperatures in the mid 60s F.
