We planted a Monarch Waystation this year and our hummer sightings have increased, especially during the week of August 5th. We regularly saw up to 7 calliope, broadtail, and rufus males and females buzzing each other over one feeder 8 feet from our kitchen window. The other 3 feeders were in use, as well, and the shy hummers were feeding on the mallow and bee-balm flowers, or perched on the shrubs and deer fence nearby. At times, we saw up to 4 female hummers cooperating, each perched on the feeder and sipping nectar from the adjacent port. Then a 5th would fly in and disturb them all. Now, August 19th, the migration has past and we have 4-6 females on the property.
