I am so happy to report that my Granddaughter and I saw a female Monarch on our Butterfly Bush on August 14, around noon. It was a warm, sunny day; the lone Monarch drank nectar from the blossoms for about an hour. Unfortunately, this is the FIRST Monarch we have seen this summer. I have taught a Monarch Unit since 1983, and have established a Butterfly Garden with Butterfly Bushes, Phlox, tall, healthy Milkweed plants, and lots of other colorful flowers. We usually have many Monarchs; I have collected eggs and caterpillars, sharing them with my Grandkids and their schools in the past.
We have seen many large yellow Tiger Swallowtails, usually in pairs, at our garden this summer. We have also seen many Sphinx Moths, and a Ruby Throated Hummingbird.
