Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 08/09/2013

Number: 2000

I observed the monarchs while traveling north on I 81. I saw them flying in a southwest direction above the road on my trip to Northern Virginia. I lost track of numbers but saw one flying south about every couple of minutes for about three hours. After exiting on I 66 towards DC we saw thousands of monarchs all along the side of the road. There were red and purple flowers in bloom that they seemed to be feeding on. We continued to see massive numbers of monarchs until we reached the more built up areas near Gainesville VA. I only wish we were driving on a road where we could have stopped to observe more closely.
