Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 08/21/2013

Number: 5

We have numerous monarchs daily. What I do notice this year is the tattered wings that some - more than half - of them have. Some are missing 30% of a wing, and one I saw today was missing 50% of its left wing. Others' wings are jagged, and some tails are gone. Why is that? I also notice butterflies being aggressive toward one another; could one be destroying the wings of another? Does anyone know what's going on and why? While they still can fly, it's very disturbing to see these tattered monarchs.
