Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/23/2013

Number: 2

Are the birds heading south earlier this year?
Little Rufus is still coming to the feeder, but a few of the girls seem to have departed, or at least they are not as active at the feeders. Last week, when the weather was cool and autumnal at night there was a feeding frenzy.
But over the last couple of days the frenzy has died down and we are not sure if we still have as many birds. One little female lost her life when she hit the window, but she is the only dead hummer we have found. It seems that we are down to two or three from five birds only a few days ago. Normally the feeding frenzy takes place later in the season before they depart.
