Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/24/2013

Number: 1

My students have been observing a monarch caterpillar that was found in my garden on milkweed that we let grow for the butterflies. Today when I checked the milkweed, I found another small larva to take to school for observation. Our class theme this year is "Spread Your Wings and FLY"...so, our little friends fit right in. I have found that the number of larva in the garden is drastically down in numbers this year. During the summer months, we typically see few monarchs...so I am hoping that with the fall migration we get to observe more of these beautiful creatures! I will be watching!
