Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/25/2013

Number: 9

9 adult monarchs were on my liatris aspera this afternoon. That's the most I've seen in my yard this year.

I saw all of them in my garden at the same time. We have a close-up of 3 at a time (attached) but no photos with them all together. They were flying around - not all were stationary at the same time. They were on my liatris aspera. In August, I often have as many as 20 on this liatris. I was told they actually prefer liatris liguilistica so planted some but they are not blooming yet. I teach Monarchs in the Classroom at the U of M so am aware that the numbers of monarchs are way down this year so was happy to get as many as nine this year. Today I have only one (8/26)!
