Finally 2 monarchs in our yard flittering amongst our flowers on August 21, nectaring intently on tithonia and buddleia, what a lovely sight! The female didn’t seem interested at all in the milkweed, just the tithonia. Both looked fairly fresh. August 21st, a very late date indeed for a first sighting here in the northern part of the Shenandoah Valley – usually it is late May or Early June!!
A male on the tithonia was also observed on August 25th, don’t know if it is the same one or different. Meager sightings, but oh so very nice to see.
