I watched courting rituals of a male and female near my milkweed garden for several minutes. A few minutes later, the male reappeared and flew to the blue mist flower in another part of my yard. There, he met with resistance from a male queen who has taken over the blue mist flower patch as his "turf". Meanwhile, the female monarch stayed near the milkweed garden nectaring and laying eggs.
