The butterfly was in and around some vegetation next to a pond at Fairview Park, an office park off Route 50 in Falls Church, just east of the Washington Beltway. It was in fine condition.

Note that before I retired, when I had an office in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington DC, I would routinely see monarchs in migration outside my window on the fifth story, working their way higher to get over the building.
