Family of mallards has been swimming around the lake, and actually coming on to my lawn to pick up the tossed seed under my bird feeder. They are now starting to fly across the lake, instead of swimming, when they move around. I take this to be practice for the big upcoming journey to somewhere south of here, before the lake freezes over.
