Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/31/2013

Number: 20

My wife and I spent three hours in our favorite caterpillar field. We found 20 which I have to say surprised me. I thought we were going to have to spend the next three days looking for enough for my classroom. I like to have one caterpillar for each student in class and I have 17 students so we are done. I tagged the last three monarchs I was looking for yesterday. They were nectaring on Joe Pye Weed that we have planted around the storm water pond in our prairie. The remaining tags that we have will be used on the butterflies that hatch from the caterpillars we caught today. The nets and containers have been put away. It’s a good feeling knowing that we are done and mission accomplished.
