Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/31/2013

Number: 1

This is the first hummer I have seen since mid-June. That's not to say they haven't been around, I just have been busy, and I have not spent a lot of time watching for them. Anyway, this little guy has a forked tale. I think he is a young Ruby Throat. We have been experiencing some really hot (100 degrees or better) days here for the past two weeks. Prior to the hot weather, we were experiencing monsoon-type weather, rainy and cool, which is highly unusual for this part of the country in July/August. I have had only one nectar feeder hanging out. I noticed this little guy at the feeder about mid-day. Since today has been so hot, I brought the feeder in, cleaned it and re-filled it. The little guy was right back at the feeder within minutes of me hanging it back out. I will enter this sighting in my hummer log book.
