I saw 5 Rufous hummers on my feeder today (juvenilles) along with what looked like a Rufous adult male. I also have a "resident" Costa's male who will probably stay all winter. I would also like to report that a good friend who is a hummingbird bander has been banding between 75-100 hummers per day on their way south. He bands twice a week in an area about 10 miles north of here at a higher altitude. They are mainly Rufous and Black-chinned. I believe the large influx started 2-3 weeks ago. He is also banding in my area and has had quite a few as well.(not sure of the numbers, but he usually gets between 5-12 in my yard alone) I even had a Calliope juvenille last week - a first for my yard.
