Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/05/2013

Number: 3

We've had a lot of activity of ruby throats in our garden recently including today. Two other friends in town also report a lot of activity. They are zooming around the back yard and garden, perching on the supports for the bird feeders, sitting for a long time (for a HB) on the feeder. There were even 2 sitting at the feeder at the same time for a short time. There is chasing and even what looks like a display (wagging the abdomen). They are present at the feeder in the morning, during the day, and very much in the early evening. There's feeding on the cardinal flower, the russian sage, and just about anything else that's blooming, including (my friend says)a blooming daylily. The one I caught with my binoculars was a female. I have seen a male recently, but I'm not sure about today.
