Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 08/31/2013

Number: 1

I had a wonderful experience last Saturday when I saw a hummingbird who seemed to just sail off one of my crape myrtle trees. The bird landed on the lawn and wasn't moving. I went over to him (not sure if a he or she) and after awhile got up the courage to very gently/carefully pick him up (he was as light as a feather) and set him in a basket where I put a red flower-shaped tea light holder. I put nectar in it and he did eat a little bit. He allowed me to gently stroke his back and neck to comfort him. He would actually look up at me. I don't know if a very young bird (I thought he was too plump to be a baby) or an injured wing. He got the courage to sail back into the crape myrtle, perching on a branch for a short time and then sailed off to another yard. I could not see where he went and don't know what's become of him. I choose to believe he's okay.
