Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/09/2013

Number: 10

Put more feeders out Sunday. Having hummers flying every direction trying to stake a claim to a feeder. Easily 10 plus hummers. I'm knew at this so I don't know the difference between males and females or young ones or juveniles. Seen the obvious Red Throated, seen some with black chins and lots with white throats, some with red specks on their throats. We've come to recognize two by distinct differences. One we call Capone. Has what looks like a tuft of feathers sticking up on his left cheek. The other is Longshank. Unusually long neck. Both green backs/wings with white chin/throats. Notice some appear to have squared tail feathers when spread with only 2 or 4 white tips on their tail feathers. Others have wider spread of tail feathers in graduated lengths and 6 or more white tips on their tail feathers.
