Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/11/2013

Number: 4

Today, I observed several fresh Monarchs nectaring (buddleia, joe pye, and sedum) in the garden, including mating. One Monarch chrysalis may be affected by insect predators.

The Fritillary or White Admiral guards (in greater number) drive Monarchs off nectar sources temporarily.

I have observed Monarchs and/and Monarch cats in the garden since July. A public butterfly garden (in Southwest Harbor) did Monarch releases this summer nearby (as the crow flies) that may have affected the numbers of Monarchs in my garden.
