Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/12/2013

Number: 5

Several hummers vigorously defending the feeders. Definitely have a juvenile male in the group. Fun to see them going after insects and feeding on the flowers. Have a couple very fat adult females. Others I think are juvenile females. Have bee guards on all the feeder ports which seems to have cut down on bee activity. Put the oriole feeder away as orioles seem to have left. This might have cut down on bee activity also. Hummers are perching out in the open on the shepard hooks, branch tips and fence rail. Did not observe this last summer or this spring. Last adult males spotted in yard was Aug. 26.
