Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/13/2013

7:00 AM, clear skies, no breeze, 45 degrees--lots of activity, play, talk amongst our resident girls this morning. Still maintaining 16 different feeders in the habitat. Masses of flowers are still in bloom--obedient plants, turtle heads, flowering tobacco, phlox, impatients, but if I could have only one nectar plant for our hummers I would select the Black & Blue Salvia--as this is their Favorite and provides a higher nectar content than other plants. On cool mornings, Black & Blie salvia is literally moving, due to the hummingbird activity. Yesterday, the dog and I were walking on a high, sandy, ridge, covered with tall white pine trees--suddenly I heard a familiar buzz--above my head for almost a 1/4 mile, as my red hair attracted a female hummer who accompanied the dog and I on our walk :
