Bald Eagle

Date: 09/11/2013

Number: 1

Tomoka State Park, Ormond Beach pair of Bald Eagles has returned from summer hiatus (no one knows where they go). I found female sitting on side of nest and male on a pine tree nearby. In FL nesting starts in early October through March. This pair usually lays eggs in Dec. Great Horned Owls kicked them out of their 30+ yr old nest 2 years ago. They built an alternate nest close to my banding station and had their first offspring last season. Young eagles wander far from home territory but will return. To date it has not been seen but will show up soon assuming it survived its first summer.
