Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/13/2013

Number: 3

This is the slowest migration we have had in six years. Usually by this time I have 10-15 feeders out in a small subdivision yard. This year I only have 2 4-ounce feeders out and only once or twice have seen up to five birds. Today, I have two constant females and they have only chased intruders a few times. Maybe the warm weather is affecting the rate of migration or maybe nectar sources are so plentiful that resources are not stressed. I do know that we have not had any strong cold fronts and in the past the cold front have moved current birds out as new ones come in on the fronts.
