After tormid rain showers last night, the day was 75 sunny with a WNW wind. I spotted 73 monarchs through out the day and into the early evening. This number is down substantially from the same date last year when I spotted over 750 under similar weather conditions.
I counted 7 roosts, however they were very small one to two monarchs per roost. Also there appears to be a decline in the number of migrating birds this year. I don't know if there is a correlation between the two?
Not much of a migration so far compared to previous years. I hope this coming week brings stronget numbers.
