I haven't seen any monarchs at all this year, only tiger swallowtails. My husband and I had just gone to Hawk Mtn Sanctuary the day before to view migrating raptors. While there, we spoke to a knowledgable expert about monarchs and learned several interesting facts. We also received a free packet of milkweed seeds to plant in our yard. I was outside late Sunday morning with my 3 dogs enjoying the beautiful day. I just happened to glance up at the right moment and saw it. A beautiful bright orange and black monarch butterfly, flitting across the yard and thru the pine trees. I was on the 4 wheeler at the time and jumped off hoping it would land, so I could snap a picture on my phone. Unfortunately, it vanished into thin air and I couldn't locate it again, but it definitely was a monarch and was the highlight of my day!!!
