Sightings between the hours of 6:57-7:30 AM, temperatures varying from
34.2 to 32.9 degrees (frost freeze advisory until 9 AM) Warm nectar served in the habitats before daybreak--first guests arriving at 6:57 AM. Still maintaining 16 feeders throughout the habitats. 4 RED flags flying on hills to invite small winged guests to our bed and breakfast sites in the forest. East habitat has 2 of the red flags, and 8 large pots of Black and Blue Salvia, (that sit on top of pots that are 21 inches high--this puts the Black & Blue Salvia up in the air--about 60 inches high. This area had exceptional activity-there was no breeze this morning--but the Black and Blue Salvia stems were swaying; from all our guests seeking precious, nectar. If gardners can plant only a few things for the hummingbirds, make sure Black and Blue Salvia is on the shopping list.
