I saw a beautiful female monarch in my front yard today. She is the ONLY monarch I have seen this summer, in spite of looking hard for eggs and caterpillars and visiting several wonderful butterfly gardens (including registered monarch way stations). Last summer we raised and released 50 monarchs from eggs or tiny caterpillars. This year, they just have not been here. It is sad and scary. Seeing this one today gave me a bit of hope.
