Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/18/2013

Number: 5

Came home for a late lunch today to release two reared Monarchs (one male, one female) that eclosed overnight, and saw 5 Monarch butterflies flying around the garden. They were nectaring on Texas Milkweed, Tithonia, Asters, Zinnias, Goldenrod, and other flowers. No directional flight while I watched, mainly looked like they were fueling up, circling the garden, with a few interacting with each other. I was able to see that two - a male and a female - were tagged; using binocs, I could see a "U" as part of the code on one, so I'm guessing they were part of the group I released yesterday, tags SCU 096-099. The others were not tagged. Nice to see the two new ones will have company :).
