Males have taken over the two feeders in the last couple of weeks -- they're clearly scrambling to fatten up before their trip south. Lots of whirling and battling, with an occasional female darting in to take her share of the nectar. Our large butterfly bush has provided an extra boost during the last few weeks, but has stopped blooming for the season. Our last hummers typically leave by early October, so the feeding frenzy is in full swing.
