Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/20/2013

Number: 2

One adult Monarch was observed on and off the butterfly bushes in my garden for 5 h this afternoon. For a short period there were actually two Monarchs feeding, interacting and gliding gracefully among the bushes as well as high up in the sky. as if to test whether the breeze was useful for 'take of' for warmer countries.
This is the only time this entire summer that I saw two Monarchs in my yard simultaneously. A beautiful sight to behold! Since rain and cold temperatures are in the forecast for Toronto, it is likely also the last time I will enjoy seeing a Monarch this year. Having seen only 8 Monarchs in total in my yard this entire summer raises a lot of concerns for the future of the phenomenon of Monarch Migration to and from Mexico. Unfortunately, it feels as if being hopeful is not enough!
