As I was coming down the garden path of the Ten Broeck Mansion I finally spotted a monarch butterfly sipping nectar from a zinnia flower. It was the first time this fall that I have seen a monarch in NY and unfortunately I was unable to catch and put a tag on it. I did capture a photo of it with my cell phone. Coincidentally, I just had taught a program on monarch migration to first graders at Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science & Technology and they are going to be involved in the Journey North Symbolic Migration program this fall. My colleagues say they saw a monarch yesterday along the Hudson River.
