This was at a county conservation park near my home. I had been walking for about 40 minutes and had essentially given up on seeing any Monarchs. I was nearing the parking lot when I saw some sort of butterfly on a milk thistle bloom. I could tell it had some orange, but I wasn't sure it was a Monarch. Eventually, I got close enough to see the tops of its wings and Yes! It was a male Monarch! I took some photos, but I never got close enough before my camera battery died to get a really nice shot. The butterfly eventually cris-crossed the path in front of me and beat me to the parking area!
