Number: 3

Night time temperature hit 43 degrees and predictions were for 73 today. About thirty minutes after sunrise, temperature near 50 degrees at 7:55am, with a cup of coffee in hand I gazed out the dining room window at one of three feeders and there she was! A female adult looking a bit worn and rumpled taking long drinks at the feeder. She remained for three minutes and then continued on her way southward. I then donned a sweatshirt and proceeded outdoors to the patio to finish my coffee and watch if another such southward traveler might appear. Fortunate that I did so for a female juvenile came into another feeder at 8:10am. She appeared a little apprehensive while drinking the 2:1 water to sugar mix but drank for about 2 minutes and then she zoomed off southwestwardly. Later at 11:35am with temperatures near 63 degrees, a third adult female traveler made an appearance for approximately two minutes at a third feeder. Then she made a quick trip to the remaining Rose-of-Sharon blooms, hitting upon about a dozen before continuing on her way southward. I know soon I'll no longer spot any more late migrators but I'm banking the extra smiles they create, for stopping at my feeders, to see me through the winter till next season.
