Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/08/2013

Number: 1

I first saw it last Sunday Sept 8 in my butterfly garden. I had never seen a tagged monarch previously but took pictures and hoped to learn more. After Sunday I didn't see it again until tonight (friday sept 13th) when I was watering flowers. This time I was able to capture it. Some groups on facebook encouraged me to report finding it. The code is SJA 602.

Editor's Note: Tag SJA 602 was issued to the Grand Island Public Schools in Grand Island, NE.

That is so funny that it's actually from here in Grand Island. The Grand Island Public Schools system has many branches so without knowing which school division, I can't say how far. I can tell you that I am on the eastern side of town & none of the schools are actually nearby. The closest school is Wasmer Elementary School, and I believe it is about 2.5 miles from me! I have a large field across from my house, and after I got the numbers from the tag, I released it and followed its flight almost a 1/2 mile south. If it is spotted again, I'd like to be updated please.
