Monarch Waystation #299 reports that a newly emerged female monarch butterfly was found in the Children's Learning Garden at the Virginia Living Museum this date. I captured it, then tagged and released it about 10 am. I found its empty chrysalis on the fence nearby. This is the first wild adult seen in many weeks. We have been rearing monarch caterpillars from the grounds, other local sources and Monarch Watch since September 9th.
