Sunday September 29 we sighted one monarchs very briefly stopping to nectar on our fall asters. Yesterday September 30 we spent some time at Sky Meadows State Park and UVA's Blandy Experimental Farm both in Northwestern VA looking for monarchs to tag. At Sky Meadows we saw 3 in a lovely expansive of field filled with wing-stem, thistles and asters. Flying too fast and very skidish in the large open filed we were not able to tag any. At Blandy the goldenrod and asters were magnificent we saw one male monarch and were fortunate enough to be able to tag it.
