Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/01/2013

Number: 32

Late flow - day 7. While I didn't see any monarchs in flight as I drove in this morning, there were at least 20 monarchs in our Monarch Waystation at 10AM. In addition, there were a dozen or so visiting the flowers in the front of the building. Given all the bleak reports we've heard, and have passed along, these numbers are gratifying. It will be interesting to learn if these late migrants successfully make it to the wintering sites in Mexico. It is late enough in the season at this latitude to worry about the probability of actually surviving the long journey ahead.
