Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/29/2013

Number: 1

Went to Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven while visiting family in CT. I had read that a Monarch tagging event was held there the previous weekend, so wanted to see if any Monarchs were present. Found a large, late-instar Monarch caterpillar on common milkweed near an Audubon at Home Healthy Habitat area that included nectar plants and milkweed. I had hoped to see adults, but the larva was a surprise! It was fairly active on this warm sunny day; checked a half hour later and it had moved to the underside of a leaf, munching away. Hopefully, close to pupating and heading south.
