The leading edge of the fall migration may have reached us here at our pasture about 65 miles ESE of San Antonio. We have seen more monarchs move low and slow across the pasture the past two days than we saw during six weeks of the spring remigration. We counted seven yesterday and ten today. We got up close to a couple as they visited some of the native milkweed, Asclepias asperula, but found no eggs. The pasture received over four and a half inches of rain in September and for the first time in over a year it is green and there are wildflowers blooming.
