Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/04/2013

Number: 1

My original fear that the Hummers have departed WI has been confirmed with the non-sightings reported from our state this week and with observations from me and my friends & neighbors.
Sad to see all of our revered migratory visitors leave, so every year, all we can do about it in this often-cruelly-harsh- weather state is to "think spring" and hope for a larger "return."
OPEN FOR COMMENTS: Each spring and fall now in recent years, I have had INCREASINGLY FEWER species visit my yard in Madison, WI. Since then there have been NO MORE sightings of Veery, Thrush, Buntings, Towhees, and Tanagers--YET my habitat remains the same-rich with food produced by Viburnum, Black Cherry, Dogwood of several varieties, and seeded trees such as Ash and Maple--and plenty of water provided. My theory is that windmills, cell phone towers, and "ethanol crops" and the poisons they require are taking an appalling toll on these species.
